Fairfield County's Georgetown Saloon Closes

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — A favorite hot spot for residents across Weston, Easton and Wilton, the Georgetown Saloon in Redding, closed its doors abruptly Tuesday.

In an email, Georgetown Saloon owner Nancy Silverman said: “I have owned the Georgetown Saloon for over seven years and they have been seven of the most special years. I have been lucky enough to meet such wonderful people, families and great musicians.”

“As of Tuesday, March 20th, the saloon will shut our doors. I want to thank everyone for including me in the Georgetown and local musical families and for all the friendships and love that I have received,” Silverman said.

The Redding bar has been a popular meeting place for musicians and music lovers alike since 1978. It catered to adults and kids — parents could dance the night away to area classic rock bands or let the kids take the stage for the bimonthly "Kid’s Karaoke" on Sundays.

On the Georgetown Saloon Facebook page, many people were caught off guard by the abrupt closure. Jonny Langston wrote, “Wait, what?” and just an hour later wrote, “So, I guess this means I don’t have to show up for work on Thursday.”

Dan DeVos wrote, “This is a shock, I didn’t see that one coming.”

David B. Bogg wrote, “Sad news indeed.”
