FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The new CEO at McDonald’s Corp. has been at the helm of the fast-food giant only since Sunday, but he's already promising big changes, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Steve Easterbrook is looking to reverse a downward economic trend that hasn't occurred with the company in more than 30 years, the WSJ said. For the first time since 1981, McDonald's saw both revenue and net income drop from the previous year.

In addition the golden arches is fighting an image problem with younger customers who view the restaurant chain as unhealthy, The Wall Street Journal reported.  

Advice from experts on the scale and scope of the needed changes, however, varies greatly, The Wall Street Journal said.
