New Black Rock Lounge Combines Flavors Of Europe And Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Hot spot? Sure. Place in Bridgeport to watch a football game? Yes. A place to hang out with friends after touring the neighborhood? Definitely. But what exactly is the Euro Lounge, which recently opened on Fairfield Avenue in Black Rock’s restaurant and nightlife district?

“It’s all of the above,” said Frank Andriotis, owner and creator of the new Park City bistro. “But on the other hand, it’s none of the above.”

Anyone walking into the Euro Lounge can tell Andriotis is right. The Euro Lounge lacks definition, but that’s what makes it unique.

Comfort is the order of the day, with couches and reclining chairs dotting the small space at 2856 Fairfield Ave. in Bridgeport. Regulars hang out and grab an adult beverage while reclining with a book or playing a few video games.

The center of the room boasts a pool table, which is often the center of attention on any given evening. But the dart board in the far corner of the room is also equally popular, as is the wide selection of beers and liquor.

Yet the décor rubs against the grain of the typical American barroom. Besides the comfortable upholstery, the walls are decorated with decidedly European motif. There is a French style to the atmosphere that is completely contradictory to the local football fans who are at the bar, rooting for the New York Giants or Jets on any given Sunday afternoon.

“We don’t really have a definition and that what makes us a little bit different,” said the owner. “At least I can’t define it.’

Added bar manager Rick Hall, “Who knows what we are? And why would you really care anyway? Just come down and have a good time.”
