Not Too Late To Order Valentine's Day Flowers From Hansen's In Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- There may be only a few days left before Valentine’s Day, but according to Hansen’s Flower Shop on Post Road in Fairfield, there is still plenty of time to place your holiday orders.

General manager Sandra Harris, gave the Daily Voice a sneak peek into the workings of Hansen's Flower Shop. She is seen here with a bouquet of Valentine's Day's most popular flower, the red rose.

According to Leanna Maruschak, who works in Hansen’s front office, the Feb. 14 holiday is “absolutely” their busiest day of the year, with nearly 500 deliveries scheduled as of Tuesday afternoon.

“If you order early, you’re guaranteed to get your delivery on time,” owner Bruce Minoff added. “There is still time to order up to Friday afternoon. We’ll take as many orders as we can.”

The Post Road flower shop bustled with workers Tuesday coordinating ordered arrangements, but for the most part they remained calm, not hectic.

According to Minoff, that has much to do with the fact that Valentine’s Day is the “busiest single day” of the year for the shop, while other top holidays such as Mother’s Day and Christmas are “bigger, but spread across three or four days.”

“We have more volume on Mother’s Day and Christmas,” he said, “but the month of February, combined with Valentine’s Day, accounts for about 10 percent of our yearly sales.”

And though Hansen’s Flower Shop wasn’t the war zone many might expect walking into a flower shop in the days leading up to Valentine’s Day, Marushak expects business to pick up around Thursday, “when all the men start calling in.”

“Everybody wants the red roses,” Marushak said. “We’ll do about 150 to 250 single rose sales on Valentine’s Day alone.”

In an attempt to make deliveries more manageable, Minoff said his flower shop is looking to turn Friday the 13th into “Lucky Friday.”

If you have your flowers delivered on Friday rather than on Saturday, you will get $10 off a bouquet, he said.

A dozen red roses, dressed and with a vase, will cost $89.99 at Hansen’s for the holiday. Red roses also come in a box for $74.99, and a single dressed rose will cost $6. A bouquet of roses of a different color will run you $64.99.

“If you’re looking for something different, garden arrangements are perfect,” Maruschak said. Garden arrangements start at $49 and are perfect for anyone on Valentine’s Day, she said.

“Don’t forget your mother and grandmother on Valentine’s Day,” she added.

Hansen’s at 1040 Post Road is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Those interested can place an order by calling 203-255-0461.
