Stamford Readers Say What They Want In Former AAA Spot

STAMFORD, Conn. —Readers are split on what they want to see replace AAA in the now vacant building at 565 Newfield Ave., in Stamford.

A fast food restaurant? A community center? What would you like to see in the Newfield Avenue location where AAA was in Stamford?

The freestanding building is owned by RHYS Real Estate and is 4,508 square-feet, the real estate agency’s website said. The building is currently zoned to be a retail location, and the rental rate is listed at $42 per square-foot per year, the website said.

RHYS is negotiating with several companies about acquiring the property, and hope to have a new tenant there soon Tyler Lyman, a broker with the listing, said adding that it could take a few weeks to a few months.

“You never know with something like this,” he said adding that the interested companies have varied and are “all over the map.”

Many have commented on The Daily Voice's Facebook Page sharing their thoughts and ideas of what should move in to the vacant spot in the Newfield Green Shopping Center.

Several suggested fast food locations, while others shot down the idea.

“I use too work in that AAA location, what is needed is a drive-thru fast food chain example Kentucky fried chicken etc.. There is nothing up in this area.” Sandy Smeriglio said.

“Probably just big enough for a [Dunkin Donuts], Sonic, Wendy's, or Duchesses though!” Dave Lanzara said agreeing with another that the space is not that big.

“Drive-thru something - with more variety than donuts! There is nowhere to grab a quick bite when you have little kids in the car except the Donut Delight on Hope Street.” Amy LaCascia Notter said.

“A dollar store or fast food place would really cheapen the area. There is plenty of fast food in Fairfield County already - too much if you ask me!” Jill Davis DeNota said.

”I miss Borders, and hate going all the way to the mall. Whatever it is, please, please, please no grimy fast food poison,” Kristen Niebuhr said suggesting a bookstore takes the location.

Others suggested a community center or similar place for people to hang out.

“A community center, that is safe and for 13-15 year-olds! That is what we really need, and let them run it!!! We need something for this group of kids, they are not allowed to work and they are not allowed in camp,” Karen Milano Nilsson said.

“How about a music venue for actual live bands,” Bennie Jablonski said.
