Romney Wins Connecticut's GOP Primary

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is the favorite of Republican voters in Connecticut, gaining 23,586 votes, or 66.2 percent of the total, in Tuesday's balloting in the presidential primary.

As of 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, the next closest candidate, Ron Paul, reported 4,982 votes, or 14 percent. Newt Gingrich was reporting 10.5 percent, or 3,755 votes, according to The Associated Press.

At a rally in Manchester, N.H., on Tuesday night, Romney said, “I can say with confidence and gratitude that you have given me great honor and solemn responsibility, and together we are going to win on Nov. 6.”

Romney’s wife, Ann, said, “I know you believe, as Mitt and I do, that this election will be the most important of our lives.”

Rhode Island, Delaware and Pennsylvania also called their primaries in Romney’s favor after their polls closed at 8 p.m. After polls closed in New York at 9 p.m., the vote was called in Romneys favor.

Romney is expected to win the Republican nomination to challenge President Barack Obama in the fall election.
