Janet Cummings, 86, Retired Editor Of Westport News

SEYMOUR, Conn. - Janet H. Cummings of Seymour, formerly of Darien, Norwalk and Westport, died Tuesday, Oct. 21. She was 86.

Cummings was born May 10, 1928, in Kansas City, Mo., to Norris and Carolyn Paxton. She was raised in Albany, N.Y., and graduated from Syracuse University, where she majored in journalism and was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She moved to Darien in 1970 and spent years in Norwalk and Westport as well. She retired as editor of the former Darien News Review and Westport News, where she worked for over 25 years.

Cummings is survived by her son, Barry Hardman (Kathleen); stepdaughter, Carla Cummings (Merek Press); two grandchildren; sister, Lea Nixon (John), of Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and husband, William Cummings.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Great Hill United Methodist Church, 225 Great Hill Road, Seymour.
