Fairway Employee Foils Alleged Attempted Robbery

PELHAM MANOR, N.Y. – A group of men allegedly tried to steal from a Boar's Head delivery truck at the Fairway Market on Friday morning before an employee called for help and caused them to flee.Pelham Manor police responded to the store on a report of a possible larceny and eventually obtained a copy of the surveillance footage, which showed at least two passengers in a mid- to late 2000s red Dodge Grand Caravan with a worn black roof rack and New York State plates. The suspects entered the lot from the east shortly after the Boars Head truck had parked and the drivers had entered the store, according to the police report. The car circled the truck, surveyed the area and backed up several times before the passenger in the front seat climbed into the back of the car. The vehicle then pulled up on the right side of the truck and both the driver and passenger got out of the car on the driver's side. The passenger then went to the rear sliding gate on the truck and used some tools to break the padlock and lift the gate. An employee of the Fairway Market saw what was happening and called for help, which caused the suspects to get back in the car and flee. They turned right in the lot, drove southbound alongside Modell's and wound their way back to the main exit at Boston Post Road. They then turned west and drove toward the Bronx.Police learned that a Fairway Market employee was in pursuit of a truck, but officers later discovered that it was the wrong vehicle.Police could not obtain any license plate information from the footage. Officers forwarded the information to the detective division to follow up on the case.
