ALBANY - One organization from South Salem and two from Katonah recently received grant money from the state.

Assemblyman Robert J. Castelli (R, C – Goldens Bridge) announced that the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) has awarded a total of eight grants to organizations in the 89th Assembly District, which includes Pound Ridge and Lewisboro, totaling almost $90,000.

The funding will be used to support the arts in Westchester County. The groups from South Salem and Katonah include:

$12,461 for Canticorum Virtuosi in South Salem, to be used for general operating support for its music program.

$25,200 for Caramoor Center for Music and Arts in Katonah for general program support, and $10,100 for Caramoor’s year-round music programs, including concerts by Caramoor's orchestra-in-residence, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s; Caramoor’s opera program, “Bel Canto at Caramoor;” the “Caramoor Virtuosi” and “Rising Stars” series; and a commissioning program, “A String Quartet Library for the 21st Century.”

$14,736 for the Katonah Museum of Art, to be used for general program support for exhibitions and education.

Other grants for groups in the 89th district include:

$13,253 for the Friends of the Neuberger Museum of Art in Purchase, for the creation of a balanced exhibition program with a corresponding roster of curriculum-based art education and public programs that explore the multiple levels of meaning in artworks, drawing connections between contemporary art, art of the past, and every day experience.

$4,549 for Friends of Music Concerts Inc. of Millwood, which will be used for the presentation of six chamber music concerts, and chamber ensemble residencies for two public school districts.

$6,626 for Westchester Jazz Orchestra, Inc. of New Castle, which will be used for professional performances.

$2,868 for Westco Productions, Inc. of White Plains, to be used for the Tickets for Tots program.

“This important funding will provide assistance to groups that keep children and adults interested in learning, music and the arts, with live performances and hands-on experiences,” Castelli said. “These grants not only help our local economy, but serve in enriching the lives of people throughout the community and helping to provide unique learning experiences.”

The New York State Council on the Arts awards more than 2,400 grants each year to more than 1,400 not-for-profit arts and cultural organizations in every county. In addition, NYSCA funds reach an additional 1,500 community-based organizations each year in the form of re-grants, which are administered by a statewide network of Local Arts Councils through NYSCA’s Decentralization program.

“According to a recent study by ArtsWestchester, $120 million is pumped into the Westchester economy by the arts industry,” Castelli said. “The arts support 3,779 jobs, and generate more than $9 million in local government tax revenue in our county.”
