Darien Republicans Launch Campaign Headquarters

DARIEN, Conn. – The pink house on Post Road next to Grieb's Pharmacy was decorated with balloons and signs Saturday morning as crowds turned out to celebrate the opening of the new headquarters of the Darien Republican Town Committee. First selectman candidate Jayme Stevenson and other members of the Republican slate met with voters to discuss the upcoming election over coffee and donuts."We couldn't have a better position than right here in the middle of town," Stevenson said. "We have a very vibrant downtown so we're going to get lots of foot traffic."Stevenson acknowledged that her opponents have been holding more press conferences, but now that she and her running mates have really kicked off their campaign, it's "full speed ahead," she said. Passersby were able to pick up campaign stickers, sign up for emails and mailing lists and get a free reusable shopping bag containing handout on why Stevenson thinks a plastic bag ban should be voluntary. As drivers passed the gathering Saturday morning, several honked their horns and waved in support. The kickoff attracted a wide range of citizens of all ages. Middlesex Middle School students Isabelle Montanaro and Christine Fiore were there blowing up balloons from the early morning, volunteering their time for a candidate they felt would "make a change for Darien."Stevenson addressed the crowd, thanking them for coming out and laying out how she would run her campaign. "I'm not big on fabricating issues. We have some issues with flooding I think need to be discussed. We need to do something about affordable housing, and we need to make sure our infrastructure is sound. But the most important thing is maintaining a wonderful quality of life for you."She encouraged those gathered to talk to their friends about the issues, and get out and vote on Nov. 8.Who are you supporting in this election?
