What's Happening In Peekskill This Week

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- It will be a busy week across Peekskill with educational and entertaining events schedules throughout the week.

Monday, July 16

• Children's Special - Mark Rust: 7 to 8 p.m. Join Mark at Riverfront Green Park for a fun collection of songs on a variety of instruments and "Tunes for Spoons" workshop where everyone will learn how to hold and play the spoons. In case of bad weather, this show will be moved indoors to the Ford Administration Building, 1031 Elm St. Riverfront Green Park.

• Peekskill Common Council Committee of the Whole meeting: 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be in the Paul Schwerman Conference Room and is open to the public. City Hall is at 840 Main St.

• Peekskill Common Council Meeting: 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be in the Common Council chambers at Peekskill City Hall, 840 Main St.

Tuesday, July 17

• Tuesday Tales at Field Library: 11 a.m. Story times for children ages 3 and up. 4 Nelson Ave.

Wednesday, July 18

• Book Babies at Field Library: 11 a.m. Story time for children up to 3 years old. 4 Nelson Ave.

• Riverfront Concert - The Chris O'Leary Band: 7 to 8 p.m. Join Chris O'Leary, formerly with Levon Helm's Barnburners, and his band for some Chicago-style blues. Riverfront Green Park.

Thursday, July 19

• Peekskill Zoning Board of Appeals Meeting Canceled: The next meeting will be held Aug. 16.

• Library Live: Chris Fascione Chicago: 6:30 p.m. Chris loves his funny stories and you will love him too. 4 Nelson Ave.

• "Damsels In Distress" at The Paramount: 7:30 p.m. The film follows a trio of beautiful girls who set out to revolutionize life at a grungy East Coast college that seeks to help severely depressed students with a program of good hygiene and musical dance numbers. The girls become romantically entangled with a series of men who threaten their friendship and sanity. The film stars Greta Gerwig, Adam Brody and Analeigh Tipton and is rated PG-13. • Open Rock Jam & Band Showcase at 12 Grapes: 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. The showcase is the place to be the third Thursday of every month. Come solo and jam with some of the best players in the Hudson Valley. Or bring your band and showcase your talents. Sign-up begins at 8 p.m. PAs, mics, drums, keys and amps are provided. Friday, July 20

• Tales For Tots at Field Library: 11 a.m. Stories for children ages 2 and up. 4 Nelson Ave.

• Mixing in Math at Field Library: 3:30 p.m. Numbers fun for kids 5 and up. 4 Nelson Ave.

• A capella: Classic Doo-wop with The 5 Creations: 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. The 5 Creations sing the Rock & Roll and Rhythm & Blues hits from the 1950s and early 1960s in the Group Harmony A capella style. Vocalists include Richie Acevedo, Michael Barge, George Valentin, Luis Rios & Jim Wegrzn. Admission is $10. BeanRunner Café, 201 S. Division St.

• Petey Hop and The Jack Rabbits at 12 Grapes: 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Petey Hop is equally at home playing down home blues, folk, country and rockabilly as he is jamming out with blistering rock and roll. Admission is a $5 entertainment fee for all, including diners. 12 N. Division St.
