On Saturday, Oct. 18, children of all ages are invited to unleash their imaginations and decorate merchants' storefront windows with Halloween-themed paintings.

Three age groups -- elementary, middle school and high school students -- will compete in two categories: Spookiest and Best Halloween Theme. The six winners will each receive $25 gift certificates from one of the participating merchants.

Kids can participate independently or in teams.

“This is a fun event to bring the community together, culminating with the great Halloween parade down Main Street," said Matthew Mandell, executive director of the Weston Westport Chamber of Commerce. "What better way to get people in the spooky mood, than to have our kids decorate our town?"

Judging will take place in the days after the students complete the paintings.

“We have a great history of artists in Westport,” said Betsy Pollack, editor of Our Town Crier and a contest judge. “This event allows kids to show off their talent and gets the community out to see all the great works.”

Merchants are asked to mark off a 3-foot by 3-foot maximum area on their window for painting and to leave the art work up through Halloween. Winning windows would display a ribbon as well.

Painters are asked to supply their own water-based paint, drop cloths, and brushes and to clean up after they are done.
