DARIEN, Conn. – Connie Hernandez, 53, of Bridgeport has been charged with stealing over $139,000 from the Darien Rowayton Bank over a two-year period.

Hernandez worked at the bank as a mortgage loan processor, according to Darien Police. Officers said they were contacted by bank employees, who noticed discrepancies in Hernandez’s paperwork.

Beginning in May 2009, Hernandez deposited appraisers' fees into her own account, police said. The transactions ranged from $44.06 to $1,995.83. All told, she is believed to have taken $139,143.96, according to police reports.

Darien Police issued a warrant for her arrest and went to Bridgeport on Oct. 26 to take her into custody. According to police, her husband suffers from medical problems and she was using the money to pay for his medication. They said she does not live lavishly and does not own a car.

Hernandez was charged with first-degree larceny and held in lieu of a $10,000 bond. She will go to court Nov. 4.
