Green Festival Features Music Innovator

Wilton picks up the green theme and Earth Day momentum with its inaugural Wilton Go Green Festival on May 2, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. 60 engaging, entertaining and educational exhibits and activities, including music by jazz innovator Arthur Lipner, take place from the Town Green to the Library. Stop by and you can calculate your carbon footprint and win a free energy audit from the Wilton Energy Commission Green Pledge. Learn tips on organic gardening, conservation and cost-saving advice from experts in sustainable energy, building, gardening and food growing, land management, transportation, watershed, and recycling. Compete in a stroller derby or buy a wallet made of old gum wrappers. Always wanted to write notes to friends on elephant dung stationery? You'll find it here. (Yes, that's right. It's made out of elephant dung.) Do downward dog pose with your kids in a yoga class, take a guided bike ride with Sound Cyclists Bicycle Club or wade in the Norwalk River to observe trout habitats.

Jazz musician Arthur Lipner adds his unique, internationally-themed music to the Festival's fun. A leading voice in vibes and marimba, Lipner has an insatiable curiousity about music from different cultures.  He traveled to Ghana to perform with the National Dance Company; to Norway to play a concert on an ice percussion instrument he constructed, and to Rio, to jam with Carnival bands. Most recently, he recorded music with Tuvan throat singers of Central Asia, who have a remarkable technique for singing multiple pitches simultaneously. (No word yet on whether he'll attempt this at the Wilton Festival!) More activities and attractions are expected to be added to the schedule, so watch the Go Green Festival website,http://www.wiltongogreenfestival.com/, for updates.

The Festival is sponsored by the Wilton Energy Commission in partnership with the Wilton Library Association, Ambler Farm, Cannon Grange, Wilton Conservation Commission, Wilton Clergy Association, Wilton Family Y, Wilton Garden Club, Wilton Public Schools, Woodcock Nature Center and Wilton Rotary Club.
