Tennis Ace Smacks Shots at Weston Club

Professional tennis player Jared Palmer traded shots and offered advice to members of Aspetuck Valley Country Club in Weston on Sunday. Palmer visited the club and offered tips and instruction to about 25 club players.

Palmer is a two-time tennis grand slam doubles champion. He won the Australian Open with Richey Reneberg in 1995 and Wimbledon with Donald Johnson in 2001. Palmer was ranked No. 1 in the world in doubles in 2000 — he won four tournaments that year with three partners — and owns 28 doubles titles. He also won one singles title and was as high as No. 35 in the world rankings in 1994.

Palmer still competes in over-35 events and will head to Wimbledon next month. Palmer won an NCAA singles title at Stanford University in 1989.

Although he still plays, Palmer also dedicates himself to instruction, particularly to doubles players.
