Gas Prices Still Too High in Bedford

Gas prices in New York are among the highest in the country and despite decreasing slightly over the past few weeks, many people are still feeling the effects in their wallets. Anthony Spinella, owner and manager of the Gulf station on 193 Pound Ridge Rd in Bedford has seen first-hand the toll that high gas prices have been taking on his customers. "Prices might have leveled-out and reached a lower number than before, but they are still too high," he said.

Over the last few months Spinella has noticed a slight decrease in business, something he attributes to the high prices. "People are driving less. They are consolidating trips where they can; going out and doing everything at once instead of running back and forth," he said.

He said that the decrease was small and that it is evident that most people still rely on their gas guzzling car as their main mode of transportation and he does not see that changing any time soon.

Besides driving less in general, another trend that has become frequent is more people are paying for their gas in cash and not filling their tank all the way up. "A lot more people are just putting twenty dollars of gas in their car and paying with cash; maybe it is because of credit debt, but a lot less people are using credit cards," Spinella explained.

Although it looks like prices have leveled out around $4.25 and in some cases going down, Spinella said it he never knows when prices might soar once more
