McCarthy Announces Bid for Norwalk Common Council

Republican David McCarthy has announced his candidacy for Common Council from Norwalk's District E. "I am running to, first and foremost, have a continuing impact on my community and help make the city a better place to live work and play," McCarthy said in a statement. "I am firmly committed to the concept of putting neighborhoods first and believe I can add another level by bringing my experience and abilities to bear on some of the issues we face.

"I have spent the last two years working with many members of the current Common Council and understand what it takes to do the job. I admire anyone who has performed community service; their commitment of time and effort is admirable."

McCarthy is a Norwalk zoning commissioner, currently serving as secretary, and is one of Norwalk's representatives to the Southwestern Regional Planning Agency. "My goal is to commit my efforts to work towards establishing 21st century standards for a 21st century city," he said. "Of course, I am firmly committed to keeping our property taxes in check and will work tirelessly to ensure that we never raise one dollar more in taxes than we absolutely need to manage the city effectively. I am familiar with the laws that govern the city's ability to raise taxes and know there are no magic solutions, but I know that if we work together to rein in spending and to effect changes in the way the city is funded, we will be successful."
