Greens Farms Girls Soccer Nips King

WESTPORT, Conn. – Caroline Vanacore scored in the 77th minute to give Greens Farms Academy’s girls soccer team a hard-fought 2-1 homecoming day win over King on Saturday.

It was the third victory in four games for the Dragons, who are 5-1-3 their last nine games. GFA is 10-3-4 overall.

Vanacore, a junior from Darien, headed the ball into the goal for the game-winner. Captain Emily Caldwell of Fairfield sent the corner kick toward the goal and Vanacore punched it past the King goalie.

Freshman Campbell Goldsmith tied the game earlier in the second half with a goal off an assist from Phebe Wong. Both girls are from Darien.

Senior captains Kate Tomlinson, Sam Brown and Nora Flaherty also played well for GFA. The Dragons travel to Rye Country Day on Monday.
