Greens Farms Field Hockey Clips King

WESTPORT, Conn. – Greens Farms Academy’s field hockey team bounced back from a loss to King the previous weekend to defeat the Stamford school, 3-2, on homecoming day Saturday.

Hayley Holzinger, Madison Leonard and Olivia Taylor scored for GFA, which snapped a two-game losing streak.

King took a 1-0 lead three minutes into the game. Holzinger, from Norwalk, blasted home a  shot from outside the circle to tie it. Leonard, a junior captain from Westport, scored on a penalty stroke with 1:23 left in the first half to put GFA ahead for good. Taylor, a sophomore from Fairfield, scored GFA’s final goal with 11:46 remaining.

Goalie Jenny Ross of  Darien made 10 saves for GFA.  Midfielders Maggie Sherin, Holzinger and Leonard were strong throughout the game, continually dodging and applying pressure to King. Junior Caitlin Rummelsburg led a tough defense with the support of junior Ashley Hutchison, senior captain Isabelle Canaan and freshman Juliet Fontana.
