Letter: Gordon Dedicated to Serving Children

WESTPORT, Conn. – The following letter was submitted by Westport resident Wendy Cohen, a former Parent Teacher Association president.

To the Editor:

As a former PTA president, I cannot imagine anyone more qualified to serve on the Board of Education than Michael Gordon.

Michael has been a leader throughout his life. In college at Penn, he was student body president. After law school, he went to Skadden, Arps and then left that position to work as an aide in President Clinton's administration. His first job was in education policy, helping elementary and secondary students. His second was serving as a spokesperson for the Attorney General, Janet Reno.

Since returning to the private sector, Michael has devoted much of his time to causes that serve children. He's sat on the boards of the Bridgeport Child Advocacy Coalition, ADL Connecticut, the Penn Fund and the Center for Arts Education. He is also a vice president of Westport's UJA/Federation, and two years ago Michael and his wife Linda were presented with ADL's Distinguished Community Leadership Award for Upper Fairfield County.

Michael holds a JD/MBA from Columbia and is a successful and disciplined businessman. In keeping with his commitment to public service, when he started his firm, Michael complemented his corporate practice with one that serves nonprofit organizations.

On a personal level, Michael Gordon is a warm, smart, caring person and an exceptionally devoted and active father. He has committed much of his personal and professional life to serving children. When he gets elected to the Board of Education, Westport will be fortunate to have him serving our children.
