Letter: Thanks for Helping Norwalk's Charities

NORWALK, Conn. – Tracey and I would like to thank all the Norwalk and Darien residents who attended our open house Sunday. It was great to see so many come out for a good cause.

After the get-together, our garage was full of new toys for the Children's Connection and the Carver Center in addition to food, which was delivered to Christian Community Action Agency and Person-to-Person. Many children will now have toys under their Christmas trees and families will have food on their table thanks to the generosity of our community.

In addition, we raised more than $7,000 in contributions for the four nonprofits plus the Norwalk Police Union and Norwalk Fire Victims Fund.

I would also like to specifically thank a few who really stepped up to the plate and helped ensure the open house was a success. Kudos to the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 371, Stew Leonard's, Andy Garfunkel, Chief Harry Rilling and K-9 Unit of the Norwalk Police Department; Tom Roncinske and the Norwalk Police Union; Chief Denis McCarthy and the Norwalk Fire Department, Lefty Petrides and Local 830 for bringing Santa; and last but not least, John Piro of Cheers Catering for volunteering to wash the dishes!

Lastly, thanks to U.S. Rep. Jim Himes; state Rep. Chris Perone; Schools Superintendent Susan Marks; council members Anna Duleep, John Igneri, Bruce Kimmel, Matt Miklave, Warren Pena; and Christi Pope of CCA for showing their support, and to Mayor Richard Moccia, who couldn't attend but generously dropped off food beforehand.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and here's to a wonderful New Year ahead.
