Rye Neck Turns Over Victory to Harrison

HARRISON, N.Y. – Rye Neck girls’ basketball coach Cathy Toolan knows that her team can stumble from game to game and from quarter to quarter.

She saw the same issue against Harrison on Wednesday.

“We’re kind of up and down,” Toolan said. “There’s games and quarters where we lose our focus.”

Harrison dominated Rye Neck, 47-27, on Wednesday night. Paige Brabant scored eight points for the Huskies. Gabby Morris added seven and Shawn Caparelli added six.

Marisa Bella led the Panthers with 10 points and Kirstin Tamucci added seven points.

Toolan said she was pleased that her defense was able to stop Harrison when it set up its offense, but did not like the turnovers her team committed.

Harrison coach Louis Kail played several young players in Wednesday’s game against Rye Neck and he liked what he saw.

“We’re getting contributions from everyone,” Kail said. “It goes a long way.”

The youth on the floor for the Huskies was abundant. Kail played an eighth grader, a ninth grader and three sophomores in the game and was proud of their performances.

“They really stepped up today,” Kail said. “They grew up.”

Harrison led Rye Neck, 27-13, at the half and kept rolling throughout the second half. The team continually forced turnovers and did not get flustered when it failed to capitalize on opportunities.

Rye Neck will not play again until after the New Year, and Toolan said the team will practice “a lot of skill work” in the coming weeks.
