WILTON, Conn. Chances are, if you have gone to the Wilton Library anytime over the last week, you have seen the yellow banner proclaiming the annual book sale is coming.
But this year, according to organizers, there are more books than we have ever seen. From April 28 to May 1, the library will open its doors for what is being called the Gigantic Book Sale.
Head down to the basement to find the majority of the books or stay upstairs where tables are lining the opening. Even the Brubeck Room is being used to house books for sale.
We have an unbelievable amount of items this year. People have been extraordinarily generous in their donations, said Pat Gould, a co-chair of the event.
There are more than 75,000 items in 50 categories ranging from cookbooks to golf books, art history to health care, self-help to classic fiction.
There is truly something for everyone, said Lila Griswold, a co-chair.
Volunteers spend much of the year sorting through the donated books to make sure that finding books is simple.
We have books, movies, CDs for adults, teens, children, toddlers you can find just about anything for just about anyone, book sale co-chair Janet Zuckerman said.
The silent auction, a two-day bidding event, will include several rare books, including a 1959 first edition copy of "Psycho," first editions by Ray Bradbury and Ian Fleming and others.
This years silent auction is particularly strong, said Bob Russell, who oversees the rare book auction. It promises to be a very robust business.
The schedule of the book sale is:
- Saturday: 7 to 9 a.m.: Early buyers with $15 admission. From 9 to 5 p.m.: Free to the public.
- Sunday: Noon to 5 p.m.
- Monday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Books are half price.
- Tuesday: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Books are $5 per bag.
- Silent auction will take place Saturday and Sunday.
