Memorial Day Weekend Events in Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. — A performance by the Parris Island Marine Corps Band and the Memorial Day Parade are just two of the events taking place this weekend in Stamford.

Friday, May 25

“Hansel and Gretel": 7-9 p.m. The Ballet School of Stamford will put on a two-act adaptation of the classic fairy tale at the Palace Theater, 61 Atlantic St. Tickets are between $9.50 and $50.

Connecticut Salsa Festival: 6 p.m. The 8th annual festival will take place at the Hilton Stamford Hotel, One First Stamford Place. There will be a weekend's worth of events raising money for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Saturday, May 26

Weston 5k Road Race: 7 a.m. Runners should head to Weston High School, 115 School Road, for the annual Memorial Day Weekend event. The registration fee is $25, with registration starting at 7 a.m. A kids fun run starts at 8 a.m., the 5k at 8:35 a.m.

Basketball Tournament: Noon. The Sheraton Stamford Hotel, 700 East Main St., hosts a 3x3, double elimination tournament. There must be one female on the court at all times, and the cost is $20 per person.

Parris Island Marine Corps Band: 6 p.m. The marching band will be at Westhill High School performing a number of selections in preparation for the Memorial Day Parade.

Sunday, May 27

Memorial Day Parade: Noon. Marching bands, community groups and veterans will march in downtown Stamford, starting on Summer Street and ending at Veterans Park (across from the Old Town Hall).

Drop-in Days: Noon. The Stamford Museum & Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Road, will have arts and crafts, trail walks and live animal visits among other activities for kids. Admission is free for members, and free with gate admission for non-members.

Monday, May 28

Jim Fixx Memorial Day 5 Mile Run: 8:15 a.m. Take the whole family to Downtown Greenwich for the annual race. There will also be a half-mile kids race at 9:15 a.m. Registration is at the Greenwich Senior Center on Greenwich Avenue. Registration fee is $25 for adults, $15 for kids.
