Joan Love, 86, Formerly of Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. – Joan Skinner Love, a former Stamford resident, died July 3 at Waveny Care Center in New Canaan, surrounded by family. She was 86. 

Love was born Dec. 16, 1925, in Arlington, Mass., to Harry and Nora Skinner. Raised and educated in Massachusetts, she graduated from Needham High School and Mount Ida Junior College. After graduation, Love pursued a career in merchandising at the Jordan Marsh Company in Boston. 

She married James F. Love in 1948 and moved to New York City. After several years in New York, the couple moved to the Shippan Point section of Stamford, where they raised five children. 

Love was a former member of the Shippan Point Garden Club and Stamford Yacht Club. She enjoyed volunteering at St. Joseph's Hospital in Stamford. Upon retirement, she and her husband resided in Harwich Port, Mass., and Venice, Fla. 

She is survived by three sons, Crispin E. (Carrie) Love, of New Canaan, James F. (Pam) Love Jr., of Darien, and Bruce J. (Katherine) Love, of Darien; two daughters, Sharon (Michael) McBride, of Midlothian, Va., and Paula (Stephen) Dwyer, of New Canaan; a sister, Marion Cramer, of Braintree, Mass.; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Love was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, James F. Love; and a sister, Ruth Barr. 

A family graveside service will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Cape Cod. Collins Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
