New Canaan Soccer Fans Pour On Creative Cheers

NEW CANAAN, Conn. - Mike Sosnick loves the rowdy enthusiasm of the European soccer games he has seen on TV. Creative songs and chants that support the home team and poke fun at opponents and referees are a time-honored tradition at games across the pond.

With the help of a growing group of Rams super-fans, Sosnick has applied that creativity and enthusiasm to New Canaan High School boys soccer home games. Led by the New Canaan senior, the group has come up with nearly a dozen chants and songs to liven the mood at Dunning Stadium for boys soccer games.

"We're just a group of friends who play pick-up soccer on the weekends. We figured we should come out to games and support the varsity team," Sosnick said. "We just tailgated a few games last year. This year we got started and making up some creative cheers like the European soccer teams. From there it just got more intricate with song sheets and stuff like that."

So keep your ears open at the next Rams boys soccer home game for student-composed classics like "We Love Good Old Jon-Luke," "Charlie Pickhard, What a Guy" and "I Want to Be Like Scott Levene."

New Canaan battled to a 1-1 tie against Westhill on Monday.
