NORWALK, Conn. A Norwalk senior citizen and his son suspected of selling drugs from a Norwalk Housing Authority senior housing complex were arrested on warrants Wednesday, according to papers filed at Norwalk Superior Court.
Police found 2.26 grams of powdered cocaine in the apartment of Fred Brooks, 66, at 9 Union Ave., according to the court papers. His son, Christopher Adams, 45, of 554 Connecticut Ave., had $5,363 in cash on him and a knife in his back pocket when he was stopped near the apartment.
The investigation began in February after many complaints from residents. Police say Brooks sold crack cocaine to a community member who was working with police during the investigation.
Police received information Tuesday that Brooks was expecting a delivery from his son, according to papers. A search-and-seizure warrant was executed at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday. The door to Brooks' one-room apartment was unlocked, and police walked in and found Brooks with three people. Cocaine was in plain view, and police also found two white pills later identified as codeine.
Police were looking for Adams in a black 1998 Ford Expedition. He was stopped nearby and said he had just come from his father's apartment. He said his father had given him money because he has been out of work with a back injury, according to the papers. Police say the money was in five bundles, consistent with street sale of drugs. Adams had five cellphones in his possession.
A police dog, Rainor, assisted in the arrests.
Brooks and Adams were charged with sale/possession within distance of a school, conspiracy, illegal possession near a school, possession of narcotics and illegal manufacture/distribution/sale of prescription drugs. Brooks was also charged with failure to keep drugs in their original container. Bond for each was set at $15,000.
