Holiday shoppers and art lovers alike are circling Saturday on their calendars, the date the Mark Twain Library annual Art Show opens for nine days of viewing and purchasing during regular library hours.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the library’s show -- a sale of juried art in mostly oils, watercolors, acrylics, pastels and some sculpture and pottery -- and it’s all in support of Redding’s public library.

The show continues through Dec. 9 and features about 125 artists’ original works hung in gallery fashion, as well as some portfolios of prints. The show gives visitors the opportunity to enjoy viewing fine art, to purchase a favorite for their own enjoyment or to buy as a special gift. A portion of each art sale directly supports the Mark Twain Library.

This year’s art show is being juried by the award-winning artist Charles Ray, former director of the Silvermine Art School in New Canaan and long time Redding resident. His program “Behind the Scenes with Charles Ray” at 7pm Tuesday will allow visitors to stroll the library with the juror and hear his comments on this year’s art.

The show also includes a lecture by art expert Tim Newton at 7 p.m. Thursday on how to buy and collect art.

Admission is free for all programs, but space is limited. Please RSVP at the front desk by calling 203-938-2545 or online at www.MarkTwainLibrary.org.
