Herbert Louis Gay, 85, Of Norwalk, Retired From Norwalk Board Of Education

NORWALK, Conn. - Herbert Louis Gay of Norwalk died Sunday, July 13. He was 85.

Gay was born Oct. 27, 1928, in Pitt County, Farmville, N.C., and was the son of Richard and Minnie Gay. He was educated in the Pitt County School system and later pursued studies in Connecticut. He was head of facilities at the Norwalk Board of Education and Jefferson School, until his retirement in 1991. He was also a master painter and upholsterer. He was a deacon and member of Strait Gate Church in Mamaroneck, N.Y., for over 50 years.

Gay is survived by his daughters, Teresa and Susan, of Norwalk; sons, Billy and Carlton of Greenville, N.C.; brothers, Andrew (Kentucky) and Glenwood (North Carolina); sisters, Emma Pearl and Esther (North Carolina), Jessie (New Jersey), and Annie (Connecticut); sisters-in-law, Earlene and Joyce (Connecticut)), and Mary North Carolina); brothers-in-law, Freddie (Connecticut)), Jerry (Connecticut)) and Robert (North Carolina); several nieces, nephews; grandchildren; and a host of other relatives. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Emma; sisters, Ruth and Amanda; and son, Blenda.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 17 at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date in N.C.
