Last year, Companions & Homemakers raised more than $12,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association. As part of the agency’s 25th anniversary this year, Companions & Homemakers is trying to raise even more money and recruit more people with teams participating in six walks around the state between late September and early October.

“Everyone has been touched either directly or indirectly by Alzheimer’s, including many of the families that Companions & Homemakers serves,” said Melissa Kaufman, Companions & Homemakers’ team captain for the Norwalk walk. “Our company is proud to participate in this walk and wants to recruit as many community members as possible. The goal is not only to raise funds and awareness of the disease, but to bring people together and have a good time. Last year was a huge success and a lot of fun. We are hoping to go even bigger this year and get even more people involved.”

Each year, over 600 communities nationwide participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Companions & Homemakers serves many Connecticut residents who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or dementia and encourages people of all ages and capability to join their team and support the cause. The Alzheimer’s Association uses the proceeds from this event to help pay for patient care, support for families, and research to find a cure to Alzheimer’s – the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death.

Kaufman will be leading a team of Companions & Homemakers staff, clients, friends, family members and anyone else who wishes to join the team in the walk in Norwalk.

Registration for the event is free but each participant is encouraged to fund raise. Registration for the walk will be at 9 a.m. The ceremony and walk will begin at 10 a.m. and finish at noon. To join the Companions & Homemakers team or to ask questions, please contact Melissa Kaufman, Companions & Homemakers, at 203-259-8375 ext. 7201.
