Rossini’s "La Cenerentola" will play at 12:55 p.m. Saturday, May 10, and Massenet’s "Werther" will play at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 11, as part of the Live in HD series at The Ridgefield Playhouse.

"La Cenerentola" is Rossini’s version of the fairy tale Cinderella and comes from the Metropolitan Opera. Massenet’s adaptation of Goethe's revolutionary and tragic romance, "Werther," stars Jonas Kaufmann opposite Sophie Koch as Charlotte.

"Interesting camera angles afforded uniquely thru the power of an HD broadcast, behind-the-scenes tours and interviews with the stars, not to mention the ease of experiencing an opera close to home make these events a pleasure," said a press release.

The series is underwritten by Jeanne Cook, Anita and Nicholas Donofrio, Liz and Steven Goldstone, Marilyn and Joe Kreitz, Joanne and John Patrick, Starbucks Coffee, Sabina and Walter Slavin, Taylor Zemo Foundation, The Ridgefield Press and Whistle Stop Bakery.

"A peerless pair of Rossini virtuosos joins forces in La Cenerentola—a vocal tour de force for mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato and Juan Diego Flórez," said the release. "Alessandro Corbelli and Luca Pisaroni complete the cast, with Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi leading the effervescent score. The new production of Werther is directed and designed by Richard Eyre and Rob Howell, the same team that created the Met's recent hit staging of Carmen. Rising young maestro Alain Altinoglu conducts."

Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors/members, $15 for students and $18 each for all 10 in the series.
