Harrison Cheerleaders Host Community Car Wash

HARRISON, N.Y. - Nicole Ferrara and her Harrison High School varsity and junior varisty cheer-mates lured dirty cars in on Saturday morning by cheering and waving signs along Harrison Avenue. Their team hosted the first of three summer car wash events to raise money for their program.

"It's been a lot of fun," Ferrara said. "We've had a lot of good team bonding today."

The Harrison Cheerleaders set up shop in the parking lot next to Harrison Avenue Elementary School between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday washing local cars as they drove in. The money made from the event will go towards the funding of competitions, cheerleading camp, attire, and more.

Dan Rosenthal of Harrison pulled in as the team swarmed his BMW with hoses, sponges, and towels to give his vehicle the works.

"I wanted to support the local cheerleaders, so I pulled in," Rosenthal said. "I also very badly needed a car wash."

The Harrison Cheerleaders participate in various school events and also compete in national competitions with the culmination of their season taking place at a Florida national competition in February.

"We're always working as a family unit," coach Rosa Acocella said.

The team placed tenth in their division in last February's competition, 2.8 points away from reaching the finals.

"It's a bummer, but we've come such a long way," Acocella said.

The team hosts four car washes during the summer. Their next events will be on July 23, Aug. 6, and Aug. 20. They can also be seen selling italian ices during the Wednesday summer concerts in town.
