View Classic Cars At Alden Sherman Show Sunday

WESTON, Conn. – The Alden Sherman Classic, a benefit car show at Weston High School on Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. is being held in honor of Alden Sherman, a 94-year- old Weston resident who has owned many classic cars in his lifetime.

Sherman owns a cream and blue 1938 Bugatti 57C roadster convertible he may drive to the show. He bought the beautiful French car in 1959 for a few thousand dollars and said a similar car recently sold for $1.5 million. “It turned out to be a good investment,” he said.

“Over 100 collectible cars, motorcycles and race cars are coming from all over Fairfield County to be a part of our show,” said Wendy Petty, director of the Weston Senior Activities Center, which is co-hosting the event with Friends of the Weston Senior Activities Center. “The owners will be with their vehicles to answer any questions, and there’s always a great story behind every car. It will be a great time for people who drive cars and a fun family day for kids of all ages.”

Everyone attending the show will have the opportunity to vote for his or her favorite cars and motorcycles, with “People’s Choice” trophies awarded to cars representing different decades – from pre-World War II to present day.

The show also includes a silent auction where attendees can bid on special prizes, including a one-hour private concert by long time Weston resident Jose Feliciano that will be performed in the home of the highest bidder. Feliciano, the Grammy Award winning singer, guitarist and composer, will be accompanied by guitarist Bill Rother, a Weston resident.

A full day of professionally-coached track time at historic Lime Rock Park is another silent auction prize.

The Alden Sherman Classic is free and open to the public, with a suggested tax-deductible donation at the gate. Proceeds will support the Weston Senior Activities Center, which serves the senior community in Weston and surrounding towns. “As our Senior Center increasingly becomes an important destination for our older neighbors, the need for fund-raising has grown,” Petty said. “We are asking people to give what they can. No donation is too small.”

John Seigenthaler, former Emmy-Award winning NBC Nightly News anchor, another Weston resident, will be the master of ceremonies for the event.
