WESTPORT, Conn. – Dozens of local residents will take a dip in the icy waters at Westport’s Compo Beach Saturday to raise money for Special Olympics Connecticut during the 11th annual Penguin Plunge.

Participants solicit donations from friends, family and local businesses to take the plunge. All proceeds support Special Olympics Connecticut's year-round sports training and athletic competition programs for more than 6,500 children and adults with intellectual disabilities, the nonprofit says on its website.

Participants are asked to raise a minimum of $75. A number of incentive prizes will be awarded in categories including most creatively dressed participant, individual who raises the most money, group that raises the most money and more.

For more information or to register, call 203-380-9990 or visit the Westport event homepage. Same day registration begins at 11 a.m. and the plunge will begin at 1 p.m.
