Fairfield County Life Coach Offers New Year Resolution Advice

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- New Year's is upon us and that means resolution time. Fairfield resident Jeannine Yoder, a life coach and the founder of Mentor Masterclass, a life coach training school, offers the following suggestions for kick-starting 2015.

  • Celebrate Your Accomplishments Before You Make Resolutions: "Write a list of everything you've done this year -- nothing is too small -- then look it over as if you were another person looking at this list from a different perspective," she said. Going into the New Year with a sense of honor and pride will change the energy of your fresh new start.
  • Begin A New Family Tradition: Initiate a new tradition with the intention to be present. "Declare that once a week, for example 'Tech Free Tuesday,' you gather as a family, put away your phones, stop checking your email, and turn off the television and find ways to truly connect with those around you," she said.
  •  Allow Yourself To Be Needy: Most likely, you need more than you are probably already asking for, and in order to get your needs met, you need to expand your capacity to receive. Make it a point to go out and ask for these things in the New Year and practice becoming a better receiver, she suggested.
  • Create A Healthy 2015: Forget diet fads and gym trips that you know will fade by March 1. Instead, make it a point to make a lifestyle change that will last. Small changes can make a big difference. Take five minutes every morning to breathe and visualize your day with a cup of warm lemon water to cleanse your body rather than going full-force into emails and coffee.
  • The Power Of Themes: Choose one theme word for the year, and stick to it, stressed Yoder. "Themes are different than any other New Years ritual in that they're an incredibly memorable way to experience the year and really master feeling the way you want to feel."
