As part of a project dubbed “Westport Paints the Town,” professional artists from the Westport Artists Collective led the public in beautifying the fence around the construction site.

The fence is scheduled to remain around the property for about two years as work continues on the multi-use Bedford Square development. It is rising on the former site of the Westport Weston Family Y bordered by Church Lane, Post Road East, and Main and Elm streets.

The fence now includes depictions of Westport landmarks such as the Minuteman and the cannons at Compo. Artists also did silhouette outlines on the wall of other artists and people, who painted individual “selfies” or paintings of friends.

The painting event last month was co-sponsored by the Westport Arts Center, the Westport Weston Chamber of Commerce and the Westport Downtown Merchants Association.
