Classic, traditional options along with newfangled flavors, can be found in all corners of Fairfield County with a number of versions served a variety of ways (hello whipped cream, fudge, sprinkles and waffle cones).

You, however, picked five nominees for the best ice cream in the county, meaning now's the time to nail down the winner.

Voting is open until Friday, June 26; go here to cast your ballot.

In the meantime, here's the "scoop" on why this one is so DVlicious. The other candidates will be featured daily with another profile Tuesday.

Timothy's Ice Cream, 2974 Fairfield Ave., Bridgeport,  (203) 366-7496

Years in Business: 33

What Makes Their Ice Cream Special: Good quality ingredients with a l6 percent butterfat content. "We churn it slowly," explained Owner Timothy Larkin.

He also said "handling" is what separates a place like his from the competition, small but important details like how the product is scooped -- no dripping water on the ice cream spade, which can leave ice chips around  the product. Similarly, there is a short turnover time between when the ice cream is made, and when it is served.

He also doesn't buy his cookies in bulk so they are always freshed when mixed with the ice cream. "Oreos are crushed minutes before being blended," he said. "It's a lot of little things that set us apart."

Number of Flavors: 12

Most Popular:  French vanilla, Dutch chocolate and Oreo cookie are the three best-sellers though Larkin said with peach season upon us, peach will be a highly sought after flavor (at presstime he had not yet started making it).

Also near the top: Coffee, strawberry and Black Rock, French vanilla with chocolate covered almonds.
