Westport's Harvey Weinstein Meets Prince William In NYC

WESTPORT, Conn. -- Academy Award-winning movie producer Harvey Weinstein, a Westport resident, was among the lunch guests who rubbed elbows with Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge on Tuesday during the royal visit to New York City.

It was not the first royal event for Weinstein, who also has been awarded the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II, William's grandmother. 

Weinstein was attending a lunch event celebrating British creative artists at the Empire State Building with William and Kate. In addition to Weinstein, the guests included Patrick Stewart, Jenna Lyons, Archie Panjabi, Gareth Neame?, executive producer of "Downton Abbey",and Imogen Lloyd-Webber (daughter of Sir Andrew Lloyd-Webber, according to the Daily Mail.

Weinstein is best known as co-founder of Miramax Films and with his brother Bob has been co-chairman of The Weinstein Co. since 2005. He won an Academy Award for producing "Shakespeare in Love," and has garnered seven Tony Awards for producing a variety of winning plays and musicals.

Weinstein has made his mark with "American royalty" as well. He hosted a campaign fundraiser in his Westport home for President Barack Obama in 2012. 

William and Kate opened their day by visiting the National Sept.11 Memorial and Museum and planned to attend a black-tie evening fundraiser at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art for their alma mater, the St. Andrews University, before returning late Tuesday to London.
