In an email to members, Bonnie Strittmatter, president of the Y board of directors, said Chief Executive Officer Rob Reeves has resigned. She also announced the Y's new leader.

"I would like to inform you that Philip Dwyer, retired CEO of the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA, has been appointed Interim CEO of the Westport Weston Family Y," she said in the email. "A resident of Fairfield, Phil served the YMCA movement for over 40 years. He will begin his employment on Monday, Oct. 27, and very much looks forward to working with the staff and volunteers as our Y transitions its leadership."

The resignation comes on the heels of the grand opening of the new Family Y facility, known as the Bedford Family Center. The new facility cost $38.5 million to build. No further details were given about Reeves.

"We wish Rob the best and thank him for his leadership of our capital campaign and building project. The Y's Board of Directors will be working with Rob on the future plans for our Family Y through the end of the year, including a smooth transition for Phil," Strittmatter said.

The board will also be working with YMCA of the USA on the CEO search process and additional resources for support, she said.

Dwyer served the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA for 20 years. Before that, he was executive director for the West Side YMCA branch for the New York City YMCA. He began his Y career with the Bethlehem, Pa., YMCA, starting as community program director and rising through the ranks to become the executive director of this independent YMCA. He received his bachelor's degree from Springfield College and a master's degree from Lehigh University.

He is active in the Fairfield community and currently is an elected member of the Fairfield Board of Education. He is married and has two grown children.
