Her talk will be on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 4 p.m.
Jungreis was a small child when her world in Hungary ended on Nov. 9, 1938, known as Kristallnacht, or Night of the Broken Glass. Anti-Jewish persecutions spread through Europe, and soon after, the Nazis forced Jungreis and her family from their home to the Bergen Belsen concentration camp.
The local event is free and open to the public.
"Coming together as a community to commemorate this horrible time in our history, especially in the presence of a survivor, is meaningful beyond words,” said Rabbi Jeremy Wiederhorn of The Conservative Synagogue.
“The children of this generation will sadly be the last generation to have personally heard a survivor speak. Then it will be our responsibility to keep the stories alive."
Jungreis writes a weekly column for the Jewish Press, the largest Anglo-Jewish paper in the world, teaches Torah on television and the Internet and has authored four best-selling books, “The Jewish Soul on Fire;” “The Committed Life;” "The Committed Marriage;" and her latest release, "Life Is A Test."
The Conservative Synagogue is located at 30 Hillspoint Road in Westport.
