Kerry Kennedy To Speak At Darien/Norwalk YWCA Breakfast

DARIEN, Conn. -- The keynote speaker at the YWCA of Darien/Norwalk's Stand Against Racism events this week will be Kerry Kennedy, a Bedford, N.Y., resident and founder and president of the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights.

Stand Against Racism is a national movement with the goal of uniting all individuals as one community regardless of differences and background. As the YWCA of Darien/Norwalk marks the event, it will host the breakfast event where Kennedy will speak as well as a Pledge to Stand Against Racism and a Race Against Racism.  

On Thursday, April 25, Kennedy will address the organization’s Speak Truth To Power initiative by addressing human rights and equality. All are welcome at this presentation and continental breakfast. On Friday, April 26, the public invited to join Darien First Selectman Jayme Stevenson in reading the YWCA’s Pledge Against Racism. All are welcome. The event will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at Darien Town Hall, 2 Renshaw Road. No registration is necessary. 

On Sunday, April 28, the YWCA of Darien/Norwalk  will host a Race Against Racism, For Empowering Women. This second annual event will have routes for runners and walkers that will begin and end at Cherry Lawn Park on Brookside Road in Darien.

For runners, the 5-mile race will loop through Darien and Norwalk while walkers can participate in a new 2-mile route. Preregistration at this website is suggested to confirm your spot; space is limited to 125 runners. Registration opens at 7:15 a.m., with the race at 8 a.m. and winner's ceremony at 9 a.m. The entry fee is $30 until midnight April 26 and will be $40 on race day. All are welcome to come cheer.

All proceeds from the race will go to the YWCA of Darien/Norwalk’s Job Search Support Program, which supports women in lower Fairfield County across all aspects of the job search process. Services include classes and tutoring to build computer skills, one-on-one resume writing assistance, and individual job search coaching.
