Woman Honored For Volunteer Work At The Center Serving Westport

STAMFORD, Conn. — Cora Delibertis of Norwalk, a volunteer at The Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education in Stamford, received the Outstanding New Adult Individual Volunteer Award from The Volunteer Center of United Way of Western Connecticut.

Delibertis presented the award at the Stamford Volunteer Recognition Day ceremony Friday at the Harry Bennett Branch of the Ferguson Library in Stamford.

“We are thrilled that Cora was selected for this honor,'' said Raquel Lopez, volunteer coordinator at The Center. "During her first year as a volunteer, she has shown great passion for our cause and has dedicated many hours to the issue of sexual violence, whether it be via group facilitation, our hotline, or speaking publicly on behalf of The Center.”

Delibertis first came to The Center two years ago as a survivor of childhood sexual violence. She attended The Center’s Adult Survivors of Childhood Abuse support group and participated in The Center’s counseling programs. She began to thrive and decided to give back.

In December 2013 she was certified as a sexual assault crisis advocate after completing a The Center’s 35-hour training, and has been volunteering on The Center’s 24-hour hotline since then.

Serving Lower Fairfield County since 1979, The Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education provides free, 24-hour confidential help to men, women and children who have experienced any form of sexual assault.

The Center supports eight town/cities in Lower Fairfield County, including: Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Weston, Westport, and Wilton.
