Following a buffet dinner prepared by Some Things Fishy Catering, honorary chair and master of ceremonies Ashleigh Banfield of CNN kicked off a paddle raise that included the surprise auction of a private tour and lunch at the closed studios of CNN New York, where Banfield serves as an anchor and host of her own midday show.

The evening wrapped-up with guests dancing to the music of the nine-member dance band Booga Sugar.

P2P Executive Director Ceci Maher says that the benefit exceeded expectations. “This is only the second time in as many years that P2P has hosted a fundraising event on this scale; the first being the inaugural Blues & BBQ Benefit that was held in 2012.”

“From the very beginning, P2P recognized the need to go beyond the basics of food, clothing and shelter to achieve our mission. Education is the clearest path out of poverty and changes the trajectory not only of a student but of a family,” says Maher.

Blues & BBQ was underwritten by the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation with contributions from Diageo, Flowers & Flowers by Adam Manjuck, Wilton Wine Shoppe, World of Beverages and Beiersdorf. New Canaan, Darien and Rowayton Magazine/Moffly Media was the exclusive media sponsor for the event.

The event committee included Chairs Jan and Peter Smith, Julie Bauer, Alison de Lavis, Kristin Edwards, Lisa Field, Anthony Harris, Leslie Hueglin, Susie Lindenberg, Keith Lyon, Taylor McCall-Mazza, Sarah Ritchey and Kate Urbank.

Volunteers Julie Bauer, Alison de Lavis, Shelia and Evol Genias and their son Jordan, Leslie Hueglin, Callie Jayne, Susie Lindenberg, Mary Lydon and her daughter Kate, Colin Majtenyi, Taylor McCall-Mazza, Sarah Ritchey, Liz Tricerri and Kate Urbank handled set-up, with many staying late to help with breakdown and clean-up.

“At P2P we are so fortunate to be engaged in service to others. From emergency assistance to college scholarship, we offer help, hope and opportunity. And we appreciate the support of all who make it possible for us to do so.”
