Professor Speaks In Weston On 'End Of The War To End All Wars'

WESTON, Conn. — The Weston Historical Society will present the final lecture in its series of events observing the 100th anniversary of World War I.

Troy Paddock will speak Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Weston Library. He is a professor of Modern European History and chairman of the Department of History at Southern Connecticut State University.

Troy Paddock, a professor of history at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Weston Public Library on “The End of the War to End All Wars: The Aftermath and Impact on History.”

The public is invited to this free event. 

Paddock is a professor of Modern European History and chairman of the Department of History at Southern Connecticut State University. He received his bachelor's in history and philosophy at Pepperdine University and his master's and doctorate at the University of California at Berkeley. 

His research on the Great War has focused on propaganda and historiography. Two of his books bear directly on his lecture: "World War I and Propaganda" and a "Call to Arms: Propaganda, Public Opinion and Newspapers in the Great War." As an author, he has published articles on German history, philosophy, and the environment. Since 2013, he has been co-editor of Environment, Space, Place.

The historical society’s exhibition, “World War War I Remembrance,” will be open through Nov. 29 at the its museum at 104 Weston Road.

The museum will be open in October on Sundays form 1 to 4 p.m. and by appointment. Many of its collection of artifacts were loaned by Weston families connected to the “Great War.”
