Redding Teen Performs At National Magicians Convention

REDDING, Conn. -- Redding resident Lee Winters made any doubts about his fledgling talents disappear like magic recently when he performed before members of the Society of American Magicians.

Lee, 15, was one of only five young magicians in the nation chosen to show off their bag of tricks before the main show each night at the society’s national conference last week in Philadelphia.

The talented teen, a member of The Bill Andrews Society of Young Magicians in Stamford, reportedly wowed his audience with a routine he called “Magico: A Legitimate Company.”

In it, he demonstrated card illusions in the “guise of products made by magicians for the muggles,” Lee said.

Lee, whose act is laced with puns so bad that they, he said, even make him groan, opened by presenting “The Hoover Card” trick. “The card that sucks” made like a vacuum cleaner, taking all of the “dirt” (aces) out of the “card-pet” (deck of cards).

He closed with “Indestructible Magispray” – where “one spray gets the wound away.”

Lee ripped up a playing card and handed it to an unsuspecting spectator, who was sprayed with water that magically restored the card.

Citing the Society of Young Magicians for helping him get his start, Lee said the club helps kids build self-confidence and esteem.
