The Rev. Robert Ross led parishioners on a tour of the new space after services last week. The building is still under construction, but the church expects the renovations to be finished by July.

“We are very excited about the completion of this parish hall which we hope will be a beacon for community activities,” Philip Matthews a member of the church’s vestry, said in a statement.

Along with church services and outreach programs, Emmanuel Church plans to rent out the space for town meetings, nonprofit group meetings, wedding receptions and other functions. The building will also be fully equipped with a generator and a full kitchen, making it a possible emergency shelter during large-scale power outages such as in town after Hurricane Sandy.

When finished, the parish hall’s main room will have enough space to accommodate 287 people. The added space will allow the 168-year-old congregation to hold more community and social events, the church said in a press release.

For example, the parish currently works with other congregations to prepare and serve meals for seniors at the Weston Senior Center. The church would be able to move those and other outreach functions into its new space once it opens.

Emmanuel Episcopal Church is located at 285 Lyons Plains Road. For more information on future parish hall rentals, visit the church’s website.
