Westport TV Travel Series 'Born To Explore' Earns 5 Emmy Nominations

WESTPORT, Conn. -- Westport-based “Born to Explore with Richard Wiese,” the ABC/Litton adventure/travel television series, has earned five daytime Emmy nominations from The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

The series was nominated for Outstanding Travel Program, Outstanding Lifestyle/Travel/Children’s Series Host, Outstanding Writing Special Class, Outstanding Sound Mixing – Live Action, and Outstanding Music Direction and Composition.

The “Born to Explore” production team is locally based, with offices in Westport. Host and executive producer Richard Wiese lives in Weston, as does executive producer Mercedes Velgot and co-executive producer Andrew Ames lives in Redding. 

The Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards gala will be held on April 24 in Los Angeles. In the previous three seasons (2011-2014), “Born to Explore” earned six daytime Emmy nominations and won the 2013 Emmy Award for Outstanding Single-Camera Cinematography.

The series has now earned a total of 11 Emmy nominations. The first three seasons averaged 1.4 million U.S. viewers every week. The series is now airing its fourth season Saturday mornings on ABC nationwide, and it is now available on Hulu.
