An estimated 553 out of 3,808 customers in Weston, 101 out of 3,903 customers in Redding and 67 out of 2,861 customers in Easton were without power at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to Connecticut Light & Power and United Illuminating reports. CL&P officials said previously they expected to have most power restored to customers this week.

More than 43,000 customers out of 1,240,246 total customers served by CL&P were out of power across Connecticut as of 6 a.m. Tuesday.

CL&P employees and utility responders from across the country and Canada responded to the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy. Power has been restored to more than 785,000 CL&P customers and 97 percent of customers have power, according to a release. All efforts are now focused on the approximately 43,000 customers who remain without power.

“Today’s efforts have been concentrated in the communities hardest hit by Sandy’s high winds and flooding,” said Bill Quinlan, CL&P Senior Vice President of Emergency Preparedness, in a press release. “Many large area outages have been restored, and crews are diligently working to restore all customers. In some areas, this effort requires that entire sections of the electric distribution system be rebuilt from scratch.”
