Connecticut Ranks High On Motor Vehicle, Property Tax Lists

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Connecticut ranks among the highest states in the country when it comes to real estate and and motor vehicle taxes, according to a report released by WalletHub.com.

Connecticut residents pay an average of $3,301 in real estate taxes. Only residents in five other states -- New Jersey, Illinois, New Hampshire, Wisconsin and Texas -- pay more.

Four of those states do not have motor vehicle taxes, however. Connecticut's average is $630 in motor vehicle taxes. Residents in four states -- Rhode Island, Virginia, Kansas and Mississippi -- pay more.

Looking for lower taxes? Try Hawaii. The state has the lowest property taxes, $482, and does not have a motor vehicle tax.
