Connecticut Unemployment Rate Falls to 7.8%

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Connecticut's jobless rate dropped for the seventh straight month in February, falling two-tenths of a point to 7.8 percent, Gov. Dannel Malloy said Thursday.

Some 5,500 jobs were added by the private sector, bringing unemployment to its lowest level since April 2009, Malloy said, adding that 17,100 positions have been gained since the beginning of the year.

“But we must not lose sight that we are still at the beginning of the recovery," Malloy said in a statement. "Reclaiming the jobs that were lost will take time, but my administration is committed to do everything we can to put the state on a path that will lead to an economic revival.”

The national unemployment rate is 8.3 percent.

Those numbers are not true numbers. Many people have stopped looking, others no longer receive unemployment because they've exhausted their benefits and are no longer counted, families are ending up in shelters, doubling up with others, or are on the streets because parents can't find work, and others have moved from CT looking for greener pastures. Getting a job in New Haven is next to impossible. There are people who have degrees competing for basic jobs such as cashiering and can't get that. Wish they (politicians) would stop with all the lies. CT's economy is in the drain, there is no real production here, and cost of living and doing business here is ridiculous.

Did it fall because people found work or because those that can't find it stopped looking and are no longer counted? The "real" unemployment number is significantly higher but that figure is never reported by the politicians. Just the other day WE Bassett Co in Shelton announced they were closing after 70yrs resulting in loss of 300 jobs according to the Mayor. Give us the real figures as I'm not interested in fairy tales.
